Project Overview

H2Engineering provided MEPF engineering design services for the new Senior Center in Tallahassee, FL—a 49,000 SF, single-story facility for the City of Tallahassee completed in January 2026. The center features a full gymnasium, dining hall with a warming kitchen, gathering and meeting areas, and dedicated fitness, office, and classroom spaces.

To promote comfort, health, and energy efficiency, H2Engineering designed advanced HVAC systems that minimize the spread of airborne contaminants while maintaining a steady flow of fresh air throughout the building. A Dedicated Outdoor Air System (DOAS) delivers filtered, dehumidified ventilation air to every space. Smaller rooms are served by fan coil units (FCUs), while larger open areas use single-zone variable air volume (VAV) units—an approach that enhances air quality and spatial isolation by reducing cross-contamination risks typical of traditional central systems. Each unit receives conditioned ventilation air through a wrap-around heat pipe energy recovery system, boosting overall efficiency.

The result is a precisely balanced, high-performance system that fosters cleaner air, consistent comfort, and a healthier environment for every visitor.
