Description
H2Engineering provided MEP-FP engineering services for the new 38,400 square-foot Tallahassee Orthopedic Clinic that offers orthopedic care to North Florida and South Georgia. This facility is equipped with a variety of spaces including exam rooms, procedure areas, x-ray rooms, office spaces, recording areas, a physical therapy area, a large meeting room, waiting areas on the first and second floors, a break room, and additional support areas. The building’s exterior is made of a single-ply roof membrane with a low slope and a mix of concrete blocks, precast concrete panels, and stucco for the walls and soffits. The roof features mechanical units covered by horizontal aluminum louvers.
Horizontal aluminum screens help control the amount of natural light that enters the building, which is also brought in through clerestory windows. In various parts of the building, lighting fixtures are designed to adjust automatically based on the level of natural light available. There were several green strategies utilities throughout the facility such as careful window positioning, building site placement, low flush toilets, motion sensor light fixtures, high-efficiency mechanical units, and the use of low VOC building materials. Insulation values exceeding code-required minimums were utilized to further improve energy efficiencies.
