This project involved the one-for-one replacement of two DX split-system air handling units, with one serving a portion of the administration building and the other a classroom wing at Riversprings Middle School in Wakulla, FL. The existing units were replaced with new units of the same DX type. A unique challenge was to determine how to remove the DX indoor unit from the mezzanine which had only a ships ladder for access. The solution was the strategic removal of the unit off the mezzanine into a classroom and taken outside through a window. Time was critical to get new units ordered in time for the new school year, as the existing units were not operating at capacity during the peak summer months from the previous year. This involved outside-of-the-box design solutions to get the most reliable unit and consider lead times for equipment. Necessary modifications were also made to the existing electrical circuits, panels, and breakers to support the new HVAC equipment.
