H2Engineering, Inc. is providing comprehensive MEPF (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection) design services as a subconsultant for a new, state-of-the-art Sheriff’s Office complex. In addition to core MEPF services, H2Engineering is delivering specialized consulting for telecommunications, audiovisual (AV), and security systems, along with rational analysis, smoke control design, inspections, and construction administration.
The project includes a 26,520 SF main office building and a 16,180 SF, 128-bed housing pod, both constructed on the site of a former juvenile justice facility. Site improvements include upgraded parking and driveways to support the operational needs of the new complex.
The previous facility, originally built in 1942, lacks fundamental security infrastructure, requiring the Sheriff’s Office to operate from temporary locations. The new complex transforms operations with modern amenities, including a fitness center, media room, staff break areas, and overnight accommodations to support emergency operations. A dedicated training room supports inter-agency collaboration and law enforcement education programs.
The project will also be designed for resilience and safety; the jail will be able to withstand Category 3 hurricane conditions, just as the main office and booking area. The dispatch center is protected up to 160 mph and compliant with NFPA 1221 requirements. This design will ensure safety, resilience, and functionality for both the staff and the community.
